Hologic, Inc.
Accu-Sort Systems, Inc.
Dynamics Research Corporation

Hologic, Inc.

Based in Bedford, Mass., Hologic, Inc. is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of medical imaging systems dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of women, and a leading developer of state-of-the-art digital imaging technology for general radiography and mammography applications. The core business units of this $200 million company are focused on osteoporosis assessment, mammography and breast biopsy, direct-to-digital X-ray for general radiography applications and mini C-arm imaging for orthopedic applications.

The Challenge - In April, 2002, Hologic set out to implement a full suite of Oracle 11i applications in an aggressive eight-month timeframe. The move to Oracle 11i placed new requirements on Hologic's IT department, as the company needed a team of seasoned Oracle DBAs to provide around-the-clock monitoring and support of its new applications. Finding and training the right skill set and providing 24/7 staffing was too costly and time-consuming for the company to undertake on its own.

The Solution - Hologic turned to Data Intensity and its diAPPS service as a cost-effective solution for rolling out its Oracle 11i environment and keeping its mission-critical Oracle 11i applications up and running 24/7. Hologic was attracted to Data Intensity because of the company's dedicated focus on enterprise applications and databases, its deep Oracle applications experience and its competitive pricing structure. Data Intensity quickly integrated into the Hologic IT team, and was a key contributor in the successful roll-out of Oracle 11i. Two years later, Data Intensity still functions as an extension of Hologic's IT department and has expanded its relationship with the company to include hosting (diHost) and disaster recovery (diDR) services.

Key Benefits - According to Hologic's CIO, Dave Rudzinsky, Hologic could not have implemented Oracle 11i without Data Intensity's guidance and support. He cites that Data Intensity has provided Hologic with significant savings, as it would cost more than twice as much to employ and train a 24/7 in-house DBA team. Rudzinsky values his relationship with Data Intensity because the company provides him peace of mind that Hologic's applications will remain up and running around the clock. Having immediate access to Data Intensity's deep technical knowledge and experience has also been an invaluable resource to the company.

Accu-Sort Systems, Inc.

Based in Telford, Penn., Accu-Sort Systems, Inc. is a leading provider of automatic identification technology that helps companies manage materials, collect/analyze data and streamline operations. This $120 million subsidiary of Danaher Corporation has a complete line of bar code scanners, CCD vision systems and RFID technology and provides turnkey solutions for all auto ID and material handling needs. Accu-Sort services organizations such as Federal Express, United Parcel Service, RPS, Inc. and the US Postal Service. More than 80 percent of all parcels shipped in the US pass under Accu-sort's equipment.

The Challenge - Accu-Sort Systems began searching for a Managed Service Provider after experiencing the rising costs and complexities of trying to manage its Tier One applications 24/7 in-house. The company originally partnered with a leading software provider to manage its applications, but grew increasing discontent with the impersonal “service-ticket” approach that the MSP offered. Accu-Sort set out to find a MSP partner that used a one-on-one, personal relationship model and could become a true extension of its IT team.

The Solution - After a comprehensive search, Accu-Sort Systems selected Data Intensity and its diAPPS and Functional Helpdesk services to support its Tier One applications environment. The Accu-Sort team was attracted to Data Intensity's laser focus on managing enterprise applications and databases, its competitive pricing structure, as well as its robust offering of software services such as hosting and consulting. They saw Data Intensity as a partner who provided them with a flexible path for the future.

Key Benefits - According to Accu-Sort's CIO, Will Macleod, Data Intensity has taken Accu-Sort's applications management to a new level. Unlike its previous MSP, Data Intensity supports not only the company's Tier One applications but also its Unix system administration, which has further cut costs for Accu-Sort by eliminating the need for an in-house DBA. Macleod cites that Data Intensity has been a true partner and that its technical consulting has been instrumental with increasing the efficiencies of his team. “We ask them to do something and they get the job done, and it's done quickly,” said Macleod. When asked what he likes best about working with Data Intensity, Macleod responded, “Their service and their deep technical experience. Bottom line, Data Intensity enables me to sleep at night. I know they are taking care of my systems and keeping them up and running.”

Headquartered in Andover, Mass., Dynamics Research Corporation (DRC) is a leading provider of professional services and high-technology products. DRC delivers engineering, logistics, training, simulation and modeling, information technology services and precision manufactured products that enhance the performance and cost effectiveness of its customers' mission critical systems. DRC's customers range from small and medium enterprises to the United States Government.

The Challenge - In March 2003, DRC undertook the mission of replacing its 20 year-old legacy finance and HR systems that had multiple disparate databases, with PeopleSoft's suite of HR, Time and Labor, and Finance applications. To successfully support the PeopleSoft implementation in an aggressive nine-month timeframe, DRC needed to quickly expand its IT department with a team of seasoned applications and database DBAs who could provide 24/7 support.

The Solution - DRC turned to Data Intensity and its diAPPS service to quickly and cost-effectively expand its IT team with software applications specialists. Data Intensity was chartered with providing installation support, database and applications monitoring, and application patching and cloning of DRC's PeopleSoft applications/environments. DRC was attracted to Data Intensity because of the company's deep bench of top technical talent, its 24/7 service model and its competitive pricing structure. DRC has been so pleased with its relationship with Data Intensity throughout its implementation of PeopleSoft, it is continuing to use the company's services for ongoing application maintenance and management.

The Benefits - According to Paul Caron, director of enterprise business systems at DRC, Data Intensity's contributions were a key and instrumental factor in maintaining DRC's aggressive nine-month PeopleSoft implementation. Data Intensity's robust support enabled DRC to keep the implementation on schedule and on budget. He reported that Data Intensity has provided DRC with significant savings by eliminating the need for an in-house 24/7 team. When asked what he likes best about working with Data Intensity, Caron responded, “Their responsiveness -- the Data Intensity team is always on top of my environments. Data Intensity's efficiencies help keep my team on schedule and enable them to focus on the business.”
